About Us

Pat & John Horrocks, Owners

John-and-Pat.jpgBlackBird is an independent framer and art gallery owned by Pat & John Horrocks. We have shared our business since 1990, and moved to Asheville in 2002.

Our experience shows in the way we conduct our business - with unmatched service and uncompromising integrity in our dealings with every client.

It is in our nature and our interests to develop long-lasting relationships based on trust.  To that end, we serve our clients by being honest, professional and diligent in our effort to provide the highest level of value possible.  That means giving sound advice regarding the art, its preservation, framing design, and the price/value of our work.

Phillip DeAngelo, Gallery Manager

Phil DeAngelo
Philip DeAngelo works with area artists to bring an outstanding offering of art to BlackBird's gallery.  Clients and artists appreciate Phil's professional and pleasant approach.  A practicing artist and long-time gallery owner himself, Phil joined BlackBird in 2008 and brings to the task a wealth of talent, knowledge and enthusiasm for art and artists.  Among his passions is a genuine concern for artists to succeed at their craft. In the gallery, he lets the art speak for itself; he believes strongly that allowing clients to listen to their own hearts is the only path to a successful art purchase.

Three Certified Picture Framers on Staff!

In 2008, three of our staff were designated as Certified Picture Framers, by the Professional Picture Framers Association.  Natalie Hood, a framer for 12 years, John Nelson, a 22-year veteran, and John Horrocks, co-owner for 20 years, passed a comprehensive examination to earn the recognition, making BlackBird the region’s only frame shop with three CPF’s. The CPF designation signifies experience and extensive knowledge, particularly on issues of preservation framing methods.
