About Coupons and Framing Prices
Unlike many other goods and services, custom frame pricing is hard to compare from one business to another. Most people can't keep abreast of normal framing costs, so it's easy for a shrewd marketer to play some sleight-of-hand. When you compare, there are some tricks to beware:
Ploy #1 - Coupons and special offers, especially at franchise chains and craft stores, often tout unbelievable savings. Well, their discounted price, even at 50% off, may not be as low as our regular price. But they're betting you'll compromise on quality, service or selection in return for such a good deal. The irony is that you're not even getting a deal.
Dodge #2 - Discount the frame but make up for it with exorbitant prices on the mats, mounting, glass and fitting charges (a lot of good one does without the others!).
Weave #3 - "Free Labor" (right!). In this scenario, you supposedly pay only for the materials... the frame, mats, glass, etc. The free labor is the charge for final assembly - usually just a few dollars and a small part of the total. The labor of building the frame, cutting the mats, mounting the art and cutting the glass are actually all built into those materials charges.
At BlackBird, we prefer a more forthright approach so you always know you're getting a fair price. We seldom have sales or publish coupons because we think the right policy is to offer all of our customers the best price we can all the time. After all, you can't always time your need for art and framing with our advertising schedule. When we do extend special offers, we make them straightforward and fair, like the $25 introductory offer on this website.
We hope you appreciate our approach that treats you as an intelligent shopper and lets us get a good night's sleep.
